Summer Wellness Tips
Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, but warmer temperatures and increased sun exposure can also bring health risks. Here are a few simple tips to help you stay safe, healthy, and feeling your best all season long.
Beat the Heat
- Extreme heat can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke if you’re not careful.
- Limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day (typically 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
- Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.
- Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
- Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, or confusion.

Protect Yourself from the Sun
- Too much sun exposure can damage your skin and increase the risk of skin cancer.
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher before going outside and reapply every two hours (or more often if swimming or sweating).
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing when possible.
- Seek shade during peak sunlight hours.
- Don’t forget commonly missed areas like your ears, neck, and the tops of your feet.
Stay Hydrated
- Staying hydrated is one of the best ways to help your body regulate temperature and maintain energy levels.
- Drink water regularly throughout the day-even if you don’t feel thirsty.
- Increase your fluid intake when spending time outdoors or exercising.
- Keep a reusable water bottle nearby as a reminder to drink more water.
- Limit excessive amounts of sugary drinks, caffeine, and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration.
Make Wellness a Priority
A few simple precautions can go a long way toward helping you enjoy a safe and healthy summer. Whether you’re spending time at the pool, attending outdoor events, or simply enjoying the sunshine, remember to protect yourself from the heat, sun, and dehydration.
Have a safe, fun, and healthy summer!
